Taipei Fine Arts Museum on Saturday Nights: Hours and Reservations
Plan a Saturday evening at TFAM: free general admission after 17:00, reserved NT$0 sessions for the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition, facility hours, and the corridor-only extension to 22:00 on 31 October 2026.
Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) normally stays open until 20:30 on Saturdays, with free general admission after 17:00, making an early-evening visit an option. Free admission does not mean you can walk into every exhibition, however: the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition, “坂本龍一︱觀音.聽時,” currently requires a reservation. Choose the exhibition first, then decide when to arrive, rather than relying on the closing time alone. All times in this guide are Taipei local time (Asia/Taipei). TFAM hours and admission

Choose what you want to see before deciding when to arrive
If you simply want to spend some time with art before or after Saturday dinner, arriving after 17:00 is worth considering. For a particular exhibition, reverse the process: secure a reservation that fits your schedule, then plan dinner and meet-up arrangements. Avoid booking dinner first and squeezing the exhibition into the time left over.
We suggest thinking about your visit in three ways:
No particular exhibition in mind: read the current exhibition descriptions and choose a subject that genuinely interests you. There is no need to cover every floor.
Coming for one specific exhibition: follow its check-in rules. The museum may still be open even when admission to your session has ended.
Also hoping to use the library or other facilities: check their hours individually. Saturday evening opening does not apply to every facility.
These are ways to keep the visit focused, not three fixed routes. If you are going with friends, agreeing on what you want to see that evening makes planning easier than simply saying, “Meet at the museum.”
General admission and special-exhibition requirements are different
TFAM’s standard general-admission ticket costs NT$30, or NT$15 for Taipei residents. On opening days, ticket sales stop at 17:00 and general admission becomes free. Saturdays also offer all-day free admission for students presenting a student ID under the museum’s learning-day scheme. Bring proof for any eligibility-based discount. Tickets to special exhibitions organized with private partners are not covered by the general-admission price list. Admission prices and conditions
For a free evening visit, the key preparation is to check cost and eligibility separately, rather than simply calculate the saving. Even a NT$0 ticket may require a reservation, a specific session or an electronic ticket.
For the current Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition, for example, NT$0 tickets can be reserved for the Saturday 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00 sessions, but a reservation is still required. Babies and young children count toward capacity and also need tickets. Standby places are limited and do not guarantee admission. Exhibition reservations and visitor information
If this exhibition is your only reason for going, we suggest securing a session before setting out. Without a reservation, be genuinely willing to visit other exhibitions instead; a standby place is not confirmed admission.
Historical notice: the 31 October extension did not keep the whole museum open until 22:00
A special arrangement applied on 31 October 2026: from 20:30 to 22:00, only the work “感測流2026─不可見、不可聞(臺北版)” in the first-floor corridor was open. No reservation was required during that period, with entry and exit through the first-floor entrance. Other exhibitions still closed at 20:30. The museum also announced that reservations for the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition that day were full and advised visitors without reservations to choose another date. 31 October extended-hours announcement
For visitors arriving late that evening, the corridor work, rather than the full exhibition, was the available option. This extension applied only to that date and must not be assumed to apply to the following Saturday.
Allow separate time for reading or architecture
TFAM’s Library and Archives normally closes at 17:00 and is closed on Mondays and national holidays. It is not a reading space available after a Saturday evening exhibition visit. Facility hours
A separate maintenance announcement states that Wang Da Hong House Theatre is closed from 1 October to 15 December 2026. If you planned to combine the museum, house theatre and exhibitions, leave the theatre’s interior off your itinerary during that period rather than discover the closure on arrival. Check the entrance and what you are carrying before you arrive
TFAM is at No. 181, Section 3, Zhongshan North Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei. A usual route from MRT Yuanshan Station Exit 1 goes through the Yuanshan area of Taipei Expo Park toward Section 3 of Zhongshan North Road. Allow time for road crossings and finding the entrance. Official directions
Under the current official guidance, visitors with reservations for the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition use the south entrance; visitors without reservations or attending other exhibitions use the main entrance. Follow on-site instructions on the day. Exhibition entry routes
Travel light, and avoid leaving bag storage, meeting friends and checking in until the last minute. The museum requires backpacks of any size, and other personal items larger than 40 × 30 × 20 cm, to be checked in. Organize the essentials beforehand so an evening intended for unhurried viewing does not become a rush. Visitor guidelines
Frequently asked questions
Is TFAM open every evening?
No. Normal hours run until 17:30 Tuesday to Friday and on Sunday, and until 20:30 on Saturday. The museum is closed on Monday. Check museum announcements for special dates rather than relying only on map listings. Opening hours
Does a one-hour reservation for the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition limit my visit to one hour?
No. The ticket time slot controls entry. The museum states that there is no time limit once you enter, although closing time still applies. Join the designated queue by the final check-in time shown on your ticket and in the official guidance. Arriving before the museum closes does not necessarily mean you can still check in. Reservation and check-in information
Is it worth waiting until the last moment during free admission?
If time is short, narrow down what you plan to see rather than arrive at the last minute to fit in more activities beforehand. A Saturday evening at TFAM works well for an exhibition you want to spend time with, not as a way to finish everything left on the day’s list.
